Up until about 1975, filmstrips were used for teaching subjects in schools, corporate training and general presentations. This was the media used before presentation software such as MS-Powerpoint, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
The equipment consisted of:
- Filmstrip – literally a developed roll of 35mm film.
- Projector – Usually a cast aluminum housing, with a projector light bulb and lens for displaying on screen
- Audio Player – Originally, vinyl records. Later, cassettes were used
An organization called “Uncommon Ephermera” is digitizing filmstrips into videos and digital slide shows. There are about 1000 digitized so far, and are available to the general public to view on line
